INDONESIA PRESIDENT WILL BE REPORTED TO THE UNITED NATION

Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Contrast) Chrisbiantoro said it will report that the Indonesian government will continue to run executions. "We will report to the UN high commission regarding this issue," said Chris in Cikini, Jakarta, Sunday, December 14th, 2014.

Five sentenced to death would be executed in December 2014. Three people are convicted of drug cases, while the other two counts of premeditated murder. Everything is sex men and citizens of Indonesia. President Joko Widodo ensure it will reject clemency petition filed by 64 death row drug case

According to Chris, still the implementation of the death penalty in Indonesia violated the commitment between the government and the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations (UN). Therefore, Indonesia and other countries have agreed to a moratorium on the death penalty.

Chris said the UN does not have the authority to ask Indonesia to cancel the execution of the death penalty. Moreover, because the death penalty still exists in positive law in Indonesia. Chris hopes the Indonesian government continues to follow the moratorium on the death penalty that has been agreed.

Chris added, in fact with the imposition of the death penalty, it does not provide a deterrent effect on offenders. "Although no death penalty, but the number of drug cases remains much," he said.
